Python Developer hire

Deepsea Technologies is an AI maritime technology company headquartered in Athens, with offices in London and Rotterdam, employing approximately 51–200 people. Founded in 2017 by Konstantinos Kyriakopoulos and Roberto Coustas, the company develops artificial intelligence platforms designed to monitor and optimize the performance of commercial vessels. Its mission is to reduce emissions and support the shipping industry’s gradual transition away from fossil fuels.

In 2023, Nabtesco — a global leader in automation solutions — acquired a majority stake in the company. Deepsea Technologies continues to operate independently as a center of excellence in artificial intelligence.

Around 80% of Deepsea’s team consists of engineers, with a particularly strong presence in AI Research and Software Development. In an environment like this, hiring Python and Java developers is far from straightforward. It requires access to professionals who are, for the most part, already employed, actively involved in demanding and fast-evolving projects, receiving competitive compensation packages, and not actively seeking new opportunities.

Challenge

Deepsea Technologies needed to hire a Python Developer while simultaneously searching for Java Developers. Both roles fall within the most competitive segment of the Greek tech market: experienced software engineers with expertise in highly sought-after programming languages.

At a company operating at Deepsea’s level, technical expectations are exceptionally high. Candidates are expected to bring more than just strong Python or Java skills; they must also be capable of integrating into a highly research-driven environment focused on AI innovation, where team members hold, on average, two postgraduate degrees.

At the same time, the company wanted to significantly reduce the time required during the early stages of the hiring process — from candidate sourcing through to the initial interview. This meant the challenge was not simply about identifying potential candidates. The real value lay in presenting already pre-qualified and comparable professionals who could be evaluated immediately by the company’s hiring team.

Solution

At linq, we leveraged the linq Talent Database — our self-service candidate platform — to provide Deepsea Technologies with highly targeted candidate recommendations from day one.

We continuously monitored the performance of both roles, evaluating the progress of each search and adapting our support based on both the company’s needs and our own findings and observations.

For the Python Developer role, the search utilized both channels of the platform: 46 inbound applications and 11 targeted outreach requests to selected candidates, resulting in 5 interested professionals. Through this combined pipeline, Deepsea Technologies successfully completed the hire in less than 40 days.

At the same time, candidates for the Java Developer role progressed through to the final stages of evaluation.

Result

In a market where experienced Python and Java Developers are among the most competitive talent profiles, the combination of inbound applications and targeted outreach delivered results within 40 days. The data clearly showed that both channels operated in parallel and complemented each other effectively, contributing significantly to the efficiency of the hiring process.

The successful Python Developer hire strengthened Deepsea Technologies’ development capabilities in a sector where building AI software for maritime optimization requires exceptionally strong technical teams. At the same time, the progress of the Java Developer search through to the final evaluation stages demonstrated that the recruitment pipeline created was equally effective for the second role.

The ongoing partnership further confirms that Deepsea Technologies views linq as a trusted partner for addressing its technical hiring and talent acquisition needs.

Conclusion

What made the collaboration with Deepsea Technologies stand out was the company’s clear understanding of what effective headhunting for technical talent truly involves. There was no need to explain why proactive candidate outreach delivers greater value than passively waiting for applications. Deepsea Technologies already understood this, and that shared mindset around hiring for technology roles made the collaboration more meaningful and effective from the very beginning.

linq delivers its greatest value when the platform is utilized to its full potential — especially when clients recognize the importance of reducing time spent in the early stages of the recruitment pipeline. The ongoing collaboration stands as the strongest validation of that value.
